この経験から，大事なデータは物理メディアに保存せず，クラウドに保存することにしました．物理メディアはfraigleです．私はDropboxをsubscribeしていますが（日本後サイトは割高なのでUS料金で），他のクラウドでももちろん良いと思います．これによりlaptop購入時にはもっとも少ない容量のHDDを選択してもよく多少節約compensationになっています．

上に貼り付けた画像が，申し込み直後に受診したemailに添付されていたpdfファイルです．この$49は最終的に支払った$550とは別に支払ったかどうかは正直覚えていません．

上に貼り付けた画像はその後にメールで送られてきた，壊れたノートPCを送るための送付ラベルです．これをプリントアウトして適当に梱包してダンボールに貼り付けました．
以後受診したメールを適宜貼り付けて行きます．実際の流れがわかると思います．

It was a pleasure to speak to you today. At this point we don't have any positive news to share other than we still feel there's a chance for success. Usually the data recovery process takes 3 weeks, that is if the hard drive response in a positive manner to the recovery attempts. Even if the recovery takes longer we will not give up on the drive we will put extra hours of work at no cost to you.
Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA to provide you, as soon as the technician finish the recovery attempt you will get an email with recovery results.

この経験を生かしdataは全てクラウド保存の方針に変更しました．そして送られてきた1-2TBの外付けHDDはCraigslistで$50程度で売却しました．
